I am wine lover and love to learn about wine all the time. I recently went to Traverse City, MI & visited 4 wineries. Those 4 wineries all had the same wine tastings. I was looking for more of a variety. Is there only certain times of the year that particular varietals are grown? Or does MI just not have the soil to grow, say, a petit syrah??

I installed Ubuntu on my notebook that came with Vista, it’s a dual installation. I hate Vista, but Microsoft is the standard for software. With Wine for Linux, allowing me to use Windows apps, is there any reason why I shouldn’t remove Vista from my system and free up more space to run Ubuntu?

I wonder if I can purchase wine racks to convert a compact fridge into a wine cooler. Does anyone know anything about this?

But in truth, I don’t know much about wine at all. Maybe I could learn to like red and not be afraid of it being astringent or giving me a headache (but white never does that to me). Can someone recommend a good resource to learn about wine? A book, or, maybe something on the web? I live in New York City, so if anyone knows maybe a wine store or some such place that offers tastings for beginners that would be great.

It is roughly 10 feet by 5 feet in area, by 8 feet deep. It is all concrete. Seems to me I might dig down along the side and create a doorway, clean out the inside and have a wine cellar, or at least a storm shelter. Is this possible?

Just built a small (282 plants) vineyard in the backyard. about 1/2 is syrah, 1/2 is cabernet souvignon. We’re looking for some creative names for the vineyard (not the actuall wine). Any ideas are helpful.
Thanks
