advice on wine tasting in Santa Barbara area?
I’d like advice about very good/the best vineyards/wineries in the Santa Barbara area.
I would like a place where we can wine taste for free or cheap ( we are all a bit broke..and I’ve never done this so i don’t know if they are usually free with at least a few bottle purchases, or if you have to pay for wine tasting seperately). We will probably buy a few bottles anyway.
Also, can we bring our own stuff and picnic there? do people do that? is that an additional fee? I’m not sure if we want a tour of the vineyard or the wine making process, buts a nice option to have.
I just don’t know anything. But i do want a nice place with an awesome ambience to have a great time with friends..and hope that it won’t cost an arm and a leg.
I appreciate any advice about specific places in the area. I would also appreciate advice about facts to consider and anything about how things are do
Thanks, but I don’t really need a site with a list of vineyard, I can do that search on my own (i have in fact). I would like some personal experience kind of advice, not a list of available places in the county.

Many of the wineries in Santa Barbara do charge for wine tasting but will apply the cost of the tasting to the purchase of any wine. You can save money by sharing a tasting…this is very common and lets you sample wine at more wineries before you need to stop.
Most of the wineries are in the area around Solvang. You are usually allowed to bring picnic supplies and have a picnic on the winery grounds. The largest fanciest winery in the area will probably be Fess Parker….you might want to picnic there. However, you will probably find lots of choices.

Well, I went wine tasting in Santa Barbara in April of 2005. I can’t give you any specific places to go (too much wine) However, I can tell you a bit on on they work.
You can do a wine tasting starting at $3-$25 depending on the winery. If you walk into one that ’s too much, just walk out (we did) no problem. You can sample anywhere from 3-6 different wines at a time ranging from white to red. After your done sampling them, you can keep your glass (I have quite a few).
Some not all wineries have a picnic area where you can purchase things there to eat or bring your own in which you don’t have to pay. And yes Lot’s of people picnic at wineries (I did).
If you like the wine your sampling you can purchase it. I did tour some wineries but your on your own for that (there’s no guide). There set up for people to walk around and look at the way they make there wine and to check out the beautiful view.
