Can someone recommend a good winery close to San Francisco that allows self guided tours?
I will be in SF for a few days and plan to drive up to the Napa area does anybody know of a winery that allows self guided tours? I really just want to enjoy the views and landscape without having to be in a tour group. Also any good restaurants for lunch in the area?

Try Sterling Vineyards, the Hess Collection, and St. Supery for self-guided tours. But these wineries aren’t the most arthitecturally stunning in the valley. Most of those are open for guided tours only (unless you’re a member of their wine club).

Eating in Napa is expensive. And because so much of it is aimed at tour groups, it isn’t quite as easy to find good food as you’d expect. If you can do your own picnic, that’s what I would suggest. Otherwise, Mustards and Martini have good reputations for nice, gourmet lunches at reasonable prices.

If you only care about landscapes though, do keep in mind that there’s more to Wine Country than just wineries. The Armstrong Redwoods SNR and Lake Sonoma are excellent places for a peaceful walk. There’s also a lovely coastline near Bodega Bay, as well as the resorts along the Russian River.

There are also more commercialistic scenic sites such as the Old Faithful Geyser and Safari West Animal Park.
