Can you bring bottles of wine on an airplane?
I assume the answer is no, since most airports won’t even let you through the security gate with a beverage. But I keep seeing containers to help you get your wine bottles home safely, such as inflatable carriers. Am I wrong, or can you bring bottles of wine, or any other alcohol packed in your carry-ons? Obviously, I don’t mean to consume on the plane. Just if you find a nice bottle on vacation and only have a carry on. Thanks.
Sorry, just to clarify, I was hoping to bring home wine not from the airport shops. Has anyone managed to do this lately?

A full-size bottle of wine (or any alcoholic beverage) would not be allowed to be carried through security in a carry-on bag, as it would violate the TSA’s liquid restrictions described in the link below. The wine would be allowed in checked luggage, as is any alcoholic beverage of less than 70 percent alcohol by volume (140 proof) — presumably, the inflatable carriers you see are designed to help protect the bottles while in your checked bag, as bags tend to be handled quite roughly while in transit.
If you do purchase wine in a shop located after the security checkpoint, it would be allowed onboard, but it could not be consumed while on the plane due to federal regulations prohibiting the consumption of alcohol onboard a plane that is not served by the airline itself.
Yes, you buy them in duty free or an outlet Air-side (when you have cleared security) You may not open them till you have finally landed. want a Drink of Wine on the Plane pay their price
Wine and all liquids have to be in checked baggage not carry-ons.
Not in your carry on luggage, all liquids and gels over 3.4oz are prohibited from carry on baggage. It is allowed in checked baggage, but if you’re not going to check any luggage, forget about bringing wine home unless you buy it after the security checkpoint in whichever airport you’re flying through.
Here’s why: http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm
If yu are flying internationally and wish to purchase wine at a duty free store you can. You provide your passport and boarding pass to the clerk and she/he will sell you the spirits……..they will deliver the spirits to your departing gate……when you get to the states and pick up your luggage prior to rechecking you bags to your final destination you must put the spirits into the kickedplan to recheck. TSA will not let you take anything 3 oz or more back through security and you must get back thorugh security to get to your next gate……..you will not be allowed to bring any liquids more than 3 oz into the boarding area…….
if it’s nice enough…..wrap it well, and check that carry-on!
