How do I begin to plan a wine and cheese reception?
I just received my master's degree and want to plan a wine and cheese reception. I've matched the wines w/ the cheese but I have no clue of what else to do. I'm open to all suggestions as I plan this gala event. I'm looking for new, bright, original ideas. Thanks.

-Choose a date and time.
-Decide on the size of the reception.
-Choose a location.
-Decide on the formality of the event.
-Decide on the invitations.
-Compile a guest list.
-Get invitations and write them to those invited. Make sure there is contact information to RSVP.
-Get a complete head count for those attending so you may purchase the appropriate amount of food and wine.
-Decide on decorations that will coincide with the formality of the party.
-Arrange the space and decorate for the occasion
-If you are having servers, make sure they are ready. If it is buffet style, make sure all the food and wine pairings are arranged appropriately. You can do this in stations.
-Make sure you have appropriate stemware for each type of wine and plates and flatware to sample the cheeses.
-Have some fruit and bread around also.
-Be a gracious host and make sure you circulate.
Some ideas would be to have a brief history and description of the wines and cheeses on the table so as they sample, they can read about what they are trying.
You can also put together a brochure with the types of wine and cheese pairings so they can take it home and refer back to it.
You can number the stations and suggest a "route" to go from one to the other.
Enjoy.
