How do you become an Oenologist?
I am very inerested in wine making for a career or help with some wineries. I have absolutely no idea on how to go about doing that. I am fairly young but have had little less than 8yrs of wine experience (ie: wine clubs, tastings, retail). Is it a profitable career? Are there active wineries typically searching for Oenologists? Anything about the actual job would be helpful.

DRINK LOTS OF WINE!
Do you have any local wineries where you live (or nearby)? Wineries go through slow and peak periods for staff and if you get in at the ground floor you’ll be able to learn a lot about working in a winery. Do you have any post high school education in wine making or viticulture? That will definitely give you an advantage over someone who doesn’t.
If you don’t have any local wineries that are looking, be ready to stretch your wings and head elsewhere - California, Australia, South Africa, Europe, Canada. In a lot of cases, you are only limited by the languages you speak and if you’re up for an adventure.
Good luck with your search.
