how long will a syrah keep?
a certain wine is coming out that I’d love to have, but I won’t be able to drink it until october. it’ll be sold out long before then, so I’d need to order it now. if I store it properly, will it be all right until october? how should I store it? there’s also a cabernet in the same line - does that keep any better?

Cabernet’s and Syrah should keep fine in a temperature between 40 up to 55 degrees, on it’s side. I really like many of the syrah’s that are being produced right now. I feel like it’s one of those best kept secrets!
If you have a special-made wine refrigerator you should be fine. I live in the NW so we are having pretty cold temps still. I have been fine with storing mine in our garage. On the occaisonal warm day, I move them to a cooler place.
If it’s a good wine, it’ll be good far past October. Several Octobers, in fact.
It’s hard to tell how wines will age. If you are ordering it from the winery you can ask them. Wine people will yack your ear off about wine.
If you store it properly, just about any wine will last a year or two. So months are just the blink of an eye for a red wine in terms of lifespan. A quality Australian syrah can last decades under proper storing conditions.
