How to best get wine home to Georgia that is purchased in Italy?
A friend is traveling in two weeks to Italy and wants to know if it is legal to ship wine home or if she can pack it in her checked luggage. She’s flying Delta. Anyone know?

It’s legal & normal to pack wine in the checked baggage… biggest worry is breakage. I’ve done it successfully from Germany several times.
This one is going to sound wierd (and I wish I could claim to be smart enough to figure this one out) but the safest way to get them back is to wrap them in disposible diapers. In the unfortunate event of breakage or leakage, the diapers will absorb the wine. After all, they’re intended to absorb liquids and trap it inside.
You will have to ship it if it is more than the legal amount to declare. Check the customs area for that country to view the rules.
Plus if you ship it you can get insurance if it breaks in transit.
if its a couple bottles, you can put it in your check in luggage. but if its a lot more, you may want to ship it. its not too much to ship anyways.
Shipping is always the best. That way there is no risk of it breaking in your bags, you don’t have to worry about customs, etc. You’ll pay for shipping, but you’ll have a warranty against any damage if the winery ships it.
If you do carry it, I believe customs allows 2 liters per adult to be brought in. You’d better check the restrictions on line though.
If it’s a couple of bottles, bubble wrap good and pack in center of suitcase. I also duck tape around neck and opening part.
You are allowed liquid in your suitcase)
