I've done it successfully from Germany several times. This one is going to sound wierd (and I wish I could claim to be smart enough to figure this one out) but the safest way to get them back is to wrap them in disposible diapers. In the unfortunate event of breakage or leakage, the diapers will absorb the wine. After all, they're intended to absorb liquids and trap it inside.
