I accidentally drank my wine with fruit flies that fell in there, Does anyone know if that's harmful?
There must have been a couple because by the end of my drink there were 2 in there. Its disgusting i know, but I tried to find answers and came up with nothing, hopefully someone can provide an answer.

Let me be completely honest. Almost every bar has a problem with fruit flies from one to another. ( EVEN THE SUPER CLEAN ONES)There’s really no way to avoid it. They get into everything: the ice, the liquor bottles, they fly into drafts beers when you’re pouring… Most the time, we catch it before the drinks served, but not always. You’ve probably unknowingly drank a few fruit flies in the past anyways. It’s harmless. kinda gross to think about, but harmless to your health nonetheless.
it was to the fruit flies
it isn’t don’t worry!!!
LOL!
You’ll be fine, it’s just unfortunate.
If ANYTHING… You just got more protein from your wine. lol
Not harmful at all. Just be careful next time.
It won’t hurt a thing.
Eliminate Food Source
Step 1 Keep all edible goods under cover. Remember that flies not only thrive on your food, they also breed on it. By sheltering food you curb their breeding, too.
Step 2 Make sure you do not have any unattended/uncovered food items stored for a long time in cabinets.
Step 3 Remember moisture also serves as breeding ground for flies. Check your house for any damp spots or puddles.
Step 4 Keep all sponges and cleaning cloths in shelter. Make sure they are dried well when not in use. Moisture and food particles stuck to these surfaces and can attract flies.
Step 5 Check carpets and furniture for moisture and spills. Walk barefoot on the carpet and touch the furniture to ensure it is dry and clean.
Step 6 Empty your trash cans regularly. Don’t let them overflow. Make sure your trash cans have tight lids so that flies don’t get access to the waste to breed.
Step 7 Check your refrigerators, dishwashers and other cooking appliances for any grime or food particles that might be hidden in a corner, out of your sight.
Step 8 Ensure that the surface of your sink and cooking area are cleaned well and dried while not in use. Any food particles or moisture there can attract flies.
Step 9 Ensure that no tap or pipe in your house is leaking.
Step 10 Make sure your cabinets and closets are free of creeks. These can serve as breeding grounds for flies. If you spot wood rotting, remove or replace it immediately.
Step 11 Remember that plants in the house can also serve as breeding grounds for flies. Make sure you treat these regularly with insecticides. Use an insecticide that is safe to use on plants and edibles.
Step 12 Remember, keeping a potted plant at one place cause the space below it to turn damp and attract flies. You must relocate the plants regularly to avoid this.
Destroy Fruit Flies
Step 1 Close all possible points of entry for flies. Make sure your doors and windows have screens and are never left open. Look for cracks in doors and windows and seal them.
Step 2 Fighting a swarm of flies that have taken residence in your sink? Try filling the sink with ammonia-based cleaners partially and let it trickle down the drain. The longer it stays the better.
Step 3 Make traps at home. Take a narrow necked bottle and fill an inch or two with fruit vinegar. Add some drops of cooling oil or liquid soap. Leave this bottle in an area where you spot fruit flies. The flies will get attracted to the smell of vinegar and the oil or soap will catch them if they attempt to land.
Step 4 Don’t have a bottle? Use a glass instead. Close it with a plastic wrap and make a couple of holes on it with a fork. This will serve as a trap, too.
Step 5 Check your local hardware stores for ready-made fly traps if you do not want to make a trap of your own.
Step 6 Buy a Fly Zapper to kill the existing flies in your house. Flies get attracted to light of the zapper and die. Make sure you switch off all other sources of light when zapper is working. This makes the zapper more effective as the flies won’t be attracted to any other source of light.
Fruit flies are attracted to ripe and overripe bananas, melons, tomatoes, squash, and apples, as well as rotten potatoes and onions. Store fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator until the fruit fly infestation is under control. Check for food scraps hidden under furniture or elsewhere.
?
Discard rotten food in an airtight container until you can dispose of it in an outside garbage can. When the decayed area is small, it’s fine to cut it off and discard just the bad part. Because fruit fly eggs and larvae are found only near the surface, you don’t need to worry about a hidden (deeper down) infestation of eggs or larvae.
?
Food debris or liquids are potential breeding sites, so clean the garbage can and rinse out wine, beer, juice, and pop bottles before they go into the recycle bin.
?
You can detect infestations coming from kitchen drains and disposals by taping down a piece of clear plastic over the drain hole and leaving it in place overnight. In the morning, look for flies waiting to get out. (If the flies look fuzzy or hairy, they are "drain flies" and not fruit flies.) Use a brush to clean the scum off drain pipes and rinse with boiling water. Clean disposals according to operating instructions.
?
Window and door screens using 16-mesh screening will keep fruit flies out, but they also need to fit snugly and be in good repair. Newly emerged adult fruit flies are attracted to light so they may be attracted to lights over windows or doors. You can consider using special yellow lights or reduce the use of lights over windows or doors.
?
Trapping
You’ll want to start trappping fruit flies right away to reduce their numbers. Cosmetically enhanced fruit fly traps are available for purchase, but you can easily make effective traps at home. Try these suggestions:
Open Traps
Bowls. bottles or other containers can function as open traps. An effective baiting solution consists of 4 Tablespoons (1/4 cup) or 1/2 inch worth of apple cider vinegar or wine plus a few drops of dishwashing liquid. The dish detergent affects the surface tension of the liquid and fruit flies that land on it will drown.
Enclosed Traps
Closed-up traps consist of three components — an empty jar, an attractive bait inside the jar, and a cover secured to the top of the jar to prevent escape. The cover, which can be plastic wrap, a sandwich baggie or a paper cone, has one or two small holes that are no more than 1/8 inch wide. After fruit flies enter the jar through the hole, they usually don’t find their way out again.
Bait Recipes for enclosed traps:
1/4 inch of apple cider vinegar or wine. Beer may also work. Replace bait as needed.
?
Pieces of attractive fruit. Bananas or other fruits that attract fruit flies will make good baits. The bait may lose it attractiveness quickly, so try putting out a new trap daily, alternating between two jars. This method is a good choice for for people who don’t like the smell of vinegar.
?
A yeasty mixture: In the bottom of the jar, dissolve 1 package of yeast (about 2 tablespoons) in 1/3 cup warm water. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar and mix gently. This mixture can last a week.
?
Jar Coverings for Enclosed Traps:
Secure a piece of plastic wrap over the jar using a rubber band. Poke one or two small holes using a toothpick or pencil. (You can enlarge the holes if fruit flies do not enter the baited jar.)
?
Poke a hole in the corner of a plastic sandwich baggie. Create an inverted cone inside the jar by orienting the corner hole at the low point of the cone. Secure the baggie to the jar with a rubber band.
?
Create a cone with a regular sheet of paper leaving a small hole (1/8 inch) at the bottom. Tape the outside overlapping edge to secure the cone’s shape. Put tape around the top of the jar so that half of it extends above the top edge. Insert the cone in the top of the jar and carefully press tape to both the cone and the jar to seal escape routes.
?
When the trap has lots of flies, you can take it outside and release the flies by removing the plastic covering or paper cone. Or you can kill and dispose of trapped flies by immersing the entire trap in a pan of hot soapy water, removing the covering to let the jar fill with water. The soapy water (along with the dead fruit flies) can be poured down the drain.
You’ll be surprised at how quickly you can reduce fruit fly numbers within two or three days by focusing on trapping.
eating bug don’t kill people. it’s just sick. ull be fine.
nah just some extra protein
It’s fine, my cousin used to eat ants all the time. Just a little more protein, eh?
I bet you’ll be fine. Check with your doctor to be safe.
You’ll be fine. People eat stuff like that to survive.
Nope. Just a little extra protein.
i donto think so but i dont no. this would probly be beter in a bioloagey catogory
not really, its actually good, they contain protein
Unless they drank something harmful, no.Consult your doctor.
I don’t think it’s harmful… I really don’t think a fruit fly is poisonous. It’s a dog eat dog world, so I’m sure you will be just fine.
you’ll be OK
haha i once drank sprite with a moth in it….im still alive! haha but really you’ll be fine
probably harmful to your mental health. cause that happened to me once. i drank a dunkin donuts hazelnut iced coffee. it was THE BEST EVER.
and at the end of it, was a dead squished fly.
in your case, the alcohol probably killed the bacteria.
they could sorta cost problems like Daria
That’s absolutely nasty. You should stick two fingers down your throat and regurgitate them before they form a fruit fly colony in your stomach.
Relax…a bit of protein isn’t going to hurt you.
no it’s fine, but acid in your stomach will kill it considering it was alive until it reached your stomach, but probably not, as there are no lights, food, etc
no you’re fine. its just gross knowing you drank them haha
You know what though, the acids in flies actually dissolve in wine, so don’t worry. All harmful things in those little hairy, black bodies just dissapeared after they landed in there and drowned.
Oh yeah, you are gonna die.
You might as well do the things you always wanted to do before you die. You know, things like cuss your boss out, make out with some random person in front of your spouse, throw eggs at the police station, The like.
nope your all good acctually you will probably get protein thats a good thing lol
Don’t worry it is completely harmless. Fruit Flies are nothing to worry about. Hehehe, you shortened their life spam of 1 week to less.
It will be harmful to the fruit fly when he gets to the acid in your stomic.in a little time he will pass
Hehehe It’s not harmful. You "accidentally consume" far more than a few fruit flies in one year, but you’d never know it. Things like a few spiders, house flies, and more.
When I was in high school in the 1970’s, I did an experiment with fruit flies in my home and accidentally had a bunch of them get out of their container. For weeks, we had them flying all around my house. They’re very harmless.
Only harmful to the fruit flies. You could probably eat a fist full of fruit flies and be fine. They generally only feed on fruit so they are pretty clean as bugs go. Drink more wine flush them on down.
I have had it happen to me without any complications. Just don’t make it a habit
teehee, I swallowed a cherry pit a few weeks ago, and I’m still livin to give youi this answer!:
Fruit flys are nasty little things, I feel ya! We have tons around the house. But as gross as they are, they’re tiny things, and many people eat stranger things and are still very healthy!
Don’t worry about it. You’ll be fine. But if you are still worried, consult your doctor!
LOL. Better you than me, buut no. You are safe. Fruit flies are part of the protein group!
I have no idea! But I just did the same damn thing. I had my bottle stopper in it and they still got in it. I took a few sips - looked down and there were a ton! YUCK! Guess I had better cork it again from now on. Not a good feeling.
