I want to make non-alcoholic sparkling wine. If I use grape juice with preservatives, will it still ferment?
I want to give this sparkling wine as gifts, in a glass bottle. Will the yeast be enough to carbonate it? Will the preservatives keep it from ever becoming alcoholic? This is very important as it is against our religion to drink any alcohol at all.

Yeast eats sugar and produces Ethel Alcohol (ETOH) and Carbon Dioxide…that’s what it does. Non-alcoholic sparkling wine is basically grape juice that has been pressurized with carbon dioxide at a high enough pressure that the gas becomes liquid and mixes in. It is then quickly bottled so it does not lose that gas.
If you put yeast in anything that has any sugar in it, it will become alcoholic in nature.
The previous poster was quite correct. I brew many different wines and beers. It is totally impossible to brew non-alcoholic wine. Yeast reacts with sugars, that is their goal in life. They puke out carbon dioxide and poop out alcohol.
Non alcohol wine, as the previous poster said, is just grape juice.
And if your religion prohibits alcohol, why would you want to give a gift of an imitation of what is prohibited? That is almost the same sin. You might as well give them fake pot or fake LSD. I know, a ridiculous comparison, but I again ask why?
As far as religion goes, most of them are self serving and please remember that all of the taboos are written by mere mankind, not the deity that you worship.Us mere mortals are subject to errors and different interpretations on what the bible says, or the Koran or whatever biased piece of crap that you read. I believe that there is a special place in Hell reserved for those that profess to speak for God, if he in fact exists. I was raised Catholic, but I managed to get rid of that when I was about 13. In "our" bible they praised the drinking of wine, as it was supposed to be the blood of Christ. Services involved eating the "host" and drinking the wine.
So, what flavour is your religion? 7th Day Adventist? Jehovah Witness? Or any other controlling religion that falsely tells you what you should or shouldn’t do to avoid pissing off the Big Guy?
1. yes it will ferment
2. it *will* be alcohol as the other posters mentioned
Why not just give that sparkling apple juice that comes in wine bottles, I think the brand I’ve seen is Marzenetti’s (sp). You can get it at a grocery store.
Yeast converts sugar to alcohol and CO2. Do not use yeast to carbonate it if you don’t want alcohol in it. You will have to artificially carbonate it. And perservatives like a combination of sulfate and sulfite will prevent fermentation, but again, no fermentation means no bubbles, so you have to carbonate by pumping CO2 into the bottles of wine somehow.
