Is it tacky to serve 1.5 liter bottles of wine at party?
We are having a medium sized (50 or so guests) anniversary party. I wanted to save a bit of money on corkage fees so I thought of serving larger bottles of wine. Do you think this will look tacky vs. regular sized wine bottles?
Um… no. No twist caps.

If it is good wine and bottled in 1.5 liter bottles it was meant to be drank… in whatever atmosphere, climate, or setting you choose. I work at a high end restaurant and frankly it just makes more sense even thou I loose money because of it.
Twist cap?
not at all - in fact, it just makes more sense - after all, a standard size bottle of wine doesn’t go very far at a large gathering….
i’d be willing to bet that most guests would be happier getting their wine faster, rather than having to wait for extra bottles to be opened.
Yes it will. It looks cheap.
it’s funny you ask this. i went to a friends xmas party where he served these large wine bottles. i thought it was very tacky and told a few people.
Hey, it’s your party and you’re paying the bill. Anyone who would judge a party by the size of the wine bottles is too hung up on the materialistic side of life.
It isn’t considered tacky at all. That does, however, depend on the wine.
I’ve seen 1.5L (or magnums) made by every company from 2-Buck-Chuck to some tres-chic wineries.
If you feel that it is a good and tasty wine, then serve it. As long as your guests enjoy it, then that is what truly matters.
