Marketing Question : While visiting a wine retailer if you as the consumer/customer had a choice, would you…
question cont’d.. prefer to use the wine & liquor information touch screen kiosk that the store owner just had installed(should it be easy to use and have pertinent information to offer about each brand that is in the store ?) –OR– would you prefer to take it upon yourself to peruse the isle rows of bottles/labels on the shelf instead , picking up various bottles to try and read the labels?

I would love to use the touch screen. Would be cool if I could enter wines I have tried and liked and have the computer suggest matches. Better yet if they would tell me what was on sale and MATCHED!!!
Part of the fun of the wine experience is the discovery. No, I would not use a machine for anything more than where a specific bottle is located or in stock at all.
I prefer to go to a wine store where the employees can recommend varieties according to the menu or my individual likes and dis-likes. If you can build up a good repertoire with a educated wine seller their recommendations will always beat a fancy label or a kiosk!!!!!
I think the touch screen would be ok to suggest pairings etc but I really prefer a ‘employee picks’ section. I find that the folks working there often have great suggestions.
I definitely prefer speaking to people at a store- even better if they have something on hand that I could taste! I know there are chains out there that have tasings regularly for customers to try new wines out.
