My boyfriend and I want to have a small picnic with wine, cheese, bread, fruit. What’s the best wine for this?
He keeps insisting on some meat. so that may be involved.
For "dessert", we may have a few shortbread cookies (biscuits).
What’s the best wine and cheese?
I don’t want cheddar, swiss, monteray jack, or any other same old same cheeses. Maybe something gourmet, but nothing too expenisive…or stinky. =) White to yellow cheeses, please.
I was thinking Riesling, but that may be ‘too’ sweet since we’ll be having fruit and cookies (biscuits).
Any suggestions?
Thank you!
I’d prefer a hard or semi-hard cheese, please. Nothing like Brie, and I’m not quite sure about Havarti, although I have considered it for this occasion. =)

i’d get a few different kinds of cheeses to try…you usually can’t go wrong with a chilled Riesling…a great sipping wine that goes with everything is White Zin or Rose…very nice for the summer. If you could find a great buttery reserve Chard, that would be nice with cheese too.
Pinot Noir for the wine, it’s a good "classy" red wine and smoked gouda for cheese. They compliment each other nicely, yet balance their degree of taste. the smoked gouda is a yellow cheese and is softer than plain gouda.
well i’m not sure if i can help u but if u to LCBO then i guess people there may help
I would buy a mild cheese like Harvarti or Fontina.
Some sliced salami and olives would be nice too.
For the wine I would recommend a nice Pinot
Noir like Williamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir or Francis Coppola Pinot Noir. I would not serve a riesling. Like you said it would be too sweet for this course. Riesling should be served with spicy foods or desserts.
If you want something white I would serve a Sauvignon Blanc or a Pinot Grigio. Yellow Tail makes a decent Pinot Grigio and Meridian is a nice Sauvignon Blanc. Both of these wines are light but not sweet and would hold their own with a cheese course.
WHITES
Champagne & Brie
Chardonnay & Gruyere
Riesling & Gouda
Sauvignon Blanc & Feta
REDS
Amarone & Asiago
Port & Stilton- must have pears, too!
If it were me, Champagne, Brie, Melons/Berries and Bread would be delightful with a nice biscuit to finish it off. Simple. Elegant. Easy to pack!
try a "merlot"!
Red wine, make sure your cheese has time to get to room temperature before serving it, the cheese has a more distinctive taste if it’s not chilled. Try Rosemary & Olive Triscuits, they’re really tasty and the room temperature cheese will give it a zestier flavor. Add red and/or green grapes to this picnic, all of these at the same meal are great. You could even be creative and/or romantic and burn tea light candles, just place them on a sturdy plate. Been there, done that!
ripple
Listen up! An excellent semi hard cheese is a Spanish Manchego sheep cheese. A great wine to drink with it is a sparkling cava or an Albarino.
red wine
Sevonge Blanc, or however you spell it O_o
i wouldnt recommend eating cheese with meat its not good for your digestive system
u should try radamer’s cheese its the best and the wine should be massandra its my favourite
I would go with a bottle of Cagnina De Romagna, it’s a sweet red thats just dry enough to be pleasant, and not sweet enough to be syrupy. And it’s not terribly expensive. Under 20 I believe, The cheese, I’d agree with the person that said smoked Guoda. But I prefer a Smoked Habanero Cheddar that I can only get through the Amish here in Kentucky.
i would go with a merlot and …i know this sounds funny but a mexican crumbling cheese goes well with the wine
