My friend asked me to his house, to taste a particularly rare and valuable sherry wine, should I go?
My friend said that he has obtained, out of season, what he believes to be a pipe of Amontillado (about 130 gallons), a particularly rare and valuable sherry wine. He isn’t sure, however, and wants mine expert opinion on the subject. He invited me to his wine cellars. I don’t know if I should go. It’s Carnival, and I’d prefer to have fun here; on the other hand, the wine is really valuable, rare and worth tasting. For the love of God, what should I do?

My dear friend,
Unless you can secret a pickax on your person, I’d go to Carnival…. or at least tell others where you are going and to come fetch you if you aren’t back by a certain hour.
Sometimes you can have enemies and not be aware. . .
And I seriously doubt that he REALLY has any Amontidillado. He is a secretive person and proud, I know, and that he plans far in advance. He also takes offense easily. Turn him away with a soft answer, and don’t let your curiosity and greed be your downfall.
cant you do both?
Go taste the sherry. You may never have the opportunity again. Live a little!
ITS THE SHERRY…THE CARNIVAL WILL BE BACK AGAIN…BUT ONCE THE WINE IS GONE…….
wait till after carnival
Sure, Nato, go taste the wine - you can go to Carnival next time. What do you have to lose? A wine expert such as yourself would never, ever get drunk, so you will be alert at all times. You must have an extraordinary sense of smell, so if something were to go wrong, you would certainly be aware of the smell of cement and brick. Sure, Nato, enjoy the rare wine; it may be the last sherry you ever drink.
Go, and stay there forever. Don’t come back here.

Fortunato, perhaps your "friend" may not be as forgiving of those little harmless remarks you’ve been making about him all season long as you might think.
The Montressors are a proud family, and quick to avenge what they feel are wrongs.
Not to lay it on with a trowel, but Amontillado, particularly at this time of year, is a questionable vintage. Besides, if it’s a question of judgment, Luchesi can always be counted upon.
You’re not a Mason, are you? Montressor may be, but not in the way you suspect.
Oh, well, you’ve never been one to care, have you? Set your cap of bells on a tilt, and do what you will. Just shut up about it, won’t you? Forever?
