Napa wine tasting costs?
Just curious, how much is the average price for a tasting in Napa?

I should add: I realize Sonoma is a bit cheaper and Mendicino county is generally free. Alas, I’m going with friends who are pretty set on Napa and I don’t think they want to drive the extra 90 minutes to the Anderson Valley (unfortunately).

The ones I’ve been to, it range from 6-15 depending on where you go. Flights are usually cheaper than one taste.
However, stop at the Visitor’s Center in downtown Napa. You can buy a wine-tasting card for $20. There’s a list of tasting rooms that are eligible. And supposedly you have to pay ten cents for tasting, but they usually waive it.
The best part about the tasting rooms in the downtown area is that they have a variety of wines, not just from one winery. So you really get to have a taste of everything.
I’ve done this before with out of town guests, and it’s a great way to sample a variety.

It’s been 6 or so years since I was there, but…
Tastings ranged from free to $15. Most seemed around the $5 mark.
Those that were free were often very limited (a small number of wines to taste), were in mega-wineries, and often had a heavy push to buy. Some were part of a larger fee to take a tour (e.g., pay $10 for the tour, but the tasting is free).
So, I’d expect to pay $5-$8/each. Don’t be surprised if it’s $10.
Most wineries in Napa charge between $3 - $5 for tasting, which they will refund if you buy a bottle. Lately some have been charging as much as $10 to taste though to encourage you to buy bottles. Some of them also limit you to 4 or 5 tastes.
You might want to try going to Healdsburg and/or Mendocino instead. Most of the wineries there don’t charge for tastes and actually have better wine (at least I think so). Mendocino also isn’t as "touristy" as Napa has become in the past few years as it is a little bit farther away from San Francisco. It’s about 2 to 2.5 hours to Mendocino from SF, as opposed to the 45 minutes to Napa, but it is well worth the extra drive.
