Removing labels from empty wine bottles?
I’m collecting empty wine bottles and I am in the procees of removing the labels. I soaked the bottles in hot water and the labels cames off. But the "stuff" that they put the labels on with is still there. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to remove it? I tried fingernail polish remover but it didn’t work that well. I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Bleach. Kills anything. Rids of anything.
Use a razorblade (gently) to skim the top layer of the glue off. (Almost as you would if you were scraping ice off a window.) (make sure you scrape away from yourself). Then you’ll easily be able to use a dish sponge and dish soap to scrub off the remaining film.
I have done this dozens of times.
diesel fuel (really works)
Solvent oil, like WD40, works well on this type of glue. Cooking oil works well on glue or goo that’s still sticky, like price tags. Once the oil has unstuck the glue, use a good dish soap and very little water — 2 or 3 drops — to remove the oil.
Sometimes rubbing alcohol works the best for me… I’ve used that to remove stickers from glass jars of jam

I’ve done this plenty of times myself, and the easiest way I found is a couple shots of Goo Gone on the labels, then I wrap the bottles around with a bit of Saran wrap and let it sit for about 10 minutes so the GG soaks to the adhesive underneath. A butterknife scrapes the labels right off, wash well in warm soapy water and dry.
I have done this a few times. The WD-40 idea sounds like it should work well. I have found that using peanut butter works pretty good. Spread a thin layer over the sticky stuff, let it sit for a few hours (or a couple of days if there’s a lot of sticky stuff). then use your fingernail or a razor to peel it off. hope this works for you.
