Shipping wine to Sweden from the U.S.?
I would like to ship some wine (maybe 6 bottles at most) to Sweden from the US. How do i go about doing that?
The reason for wanting to do so is because i am living in Sweden, but am from Hawaii and i would really like some Hawaii Volcano Wine to treat my friends to.
The Swedish government has a monopoly on wine, spirits and beer over 3.5%, so shipping from one distributor to another will not work.
Is it possible to have wine as luggage or carry-on again after 9/11?

There are three legal ways of importing American wines into Sweden:
1. Have the someone send you the bottles as a gift. If the total volume does not exceed 4 litres and the value is not over SEK 500, you will not have to pay duty, but you shall have to pay tax. The tax amount varies with alcohol content (eg 8.5 %–15 % by volume SEK 21.58/litre; over 15 % SEK 45.17/litre).
2. Take the bottles with you (in your checked luggage). Up to 4 litres of wine can be imported without paying duty or taxes.
3. Have the Swedish Alcohol Retail Monopoly (Systembolaget) import them for you. Contact them and they will tell you total price and minimum quantity. This is probably the most expensive way, but there is no cost in asking for a quotation.
In all cases you have to be at least 20 years.
you can’t legally
its illegal to ship alcoholic beverages privately over international borders.
your best bet is contact a liquor distributor near you and they can arrange delivery to a liquor distributor in Sweden
First check the duty free limit for sweden. I think it is 2 L if no spirits.
It is done by volume, not alcohol content so duty will probably have to be paid on six bottless of wine. I
f you ship them seperately they may still incur duty if they are seen to be part of a single shiment in seperate packages.
Duty is paid by the recipient or the wine is confiscated.
If they are a commercial sample you may be able to get a licence to wave duty.
Don’t know ’cause I live in Blighty, but I’m curious as to why you would want to go to all that trouble just for 6 bottles, they do have wine in Sweden you know, some odd licensing laws for the booze merchants ’cause they’re run by the state, but still easy enough to get hold off. You might have problems with regard to Importation and taxes to pay and probably having to prove to the Swedish authorities that they are not for resale otherwise there’ll be another bunch of taxes to pay as well. Is it worth it. Mind you I’ll be interested to find out as well.
You have to check it in your luggage. No big deal. Don’t waste your time shipping it. Wine is much cheaper in the US and California wine is probably better then Swedish wine, dontcha think?. For you it will be like a third world country. You wont believe how cheap stuff is. I love Europe but I can’t even go there anymore. $70 breakfast, no thank you. If there is one particular wine that is special and you were bragging about put two bottles in your luggage. Don’t waste your time with more.
