YOu can do that, but take them out 30 minutes before you open, so they can warm up.

Some of chardonney's flavers (the Big Butter and the oak) are suppressed at a lower (fridge) temperature. the (slightly) warmer room temp will release these esters.

White wine should be refridgerated (around 40-50 degrees F I believe).

Red wine should be stored at room temperature.

Yes. White wine needs to be kept refrigerated if you're planning on serving it any time soon. Otherwise keep it in a cold damp dark place, like your basement, on it's side so that the cork will remain moist.

Remember: Red = Room. for room temp. White's are Always cold.

You can store them both at room temperature.

White wine, refrigerate it 20-30 minutes before serving.

Red wine can be served at room temperature.

When storing your wine, lay it on it's side, in a cool, dim area.

dukalink has best catch-all answer.

Always keep all wine just below room tempreture (i.e. in the basement). Chill white wine in the way dukalink says (i.e. it's not that hard).

Don't fret about chilling overnight.

As for storing - is the wine good chardonnay or bordeaux? (To answer this question, ask yourself if it costs more than you normally would spend.) If so, save for a special occasion, if not - just enjoy it / get banjaxed!!
