Any Merlot, Rioja, Tempranillo, Zinfandel (not white zinfandel, but the real zinfandel) these are NOT sweet wines.
Cab Sav is typically also not sweet coudl be fruity though and that may appeal to you. The best way to look for a sweet red wine is to see if it says anything about it being offered with dessert on it.
Prince Michel vineyards in Virginia offers its Madison Series Sweet Red Reserve - they are under new ownership and is in the process of being merged into the Rapidan River Series.. But that was the BEST sweet red wine I’ve tasted. http://www.princemichel.com Very good stuff.
Another option -fruit red wines. Horton vineyards in Virginia makes the best fruit wines. They still have grapes in them - but are fortified with fruit. http://www.hvwine.com/ try their Blackberry wine (they will ship it to you)
The wine notes on the Blackberry are:
90% Blackberry, 10% Petit Verdot - extremely aromatic, full bodied, exotic fruit flavors, followed by a long balanced finish.
They also have Raspberry which is to die for too!
I’m not a big sweet wine drinker - but on a nice gorgeous summer night this wine is awesome! Great with dessert and served room temp or great slightly chilled.
Why not enjoy sweet white wines? Reisling or honey wines in particular?
Lambrusco. But if you like sweet, go dessert whites. Shiraz can be jammy and give some good mouthfeel, but a light Baujolais might go down well. Some Stawberry-flavoured Pinot could be nice too. Why not drink red with fruit?
Belladona, first tell me your age,and if you are of drinking age, then i’ll help you,and share not only labels but names too of some good wines,so go ahead tell me
Hi Belledanna
Very few red wines are sweet, and those that are will say so on the label.
One good very sweet red wine that is inexpensive is Mavrodaphne. It is from Greece and most wine stores will stock it.
Port is sweet, but as a fortified wine it is meant to be sipped.
If you are in the Eastern US then you will find it easier to get sweeter red wines as many local wineries make sweet red wines from local grape varieties. (They make them sweet to hide deficiencies in the grape — but that is another story).
Bully Hill in New York’s Finger Lakes (but widely distributed) are a good example. Their back labels have a thermometer like sweetness indicator and Sweet Walter Red is as the very top of sweetness (see http://www.bullyhill.com/descred.asp?id=19 ) and look out also for their Ives
Enjoy the wine (whatever your age
