About 10yrs ago the corner liquor store had some wine that I loved and have since been wondering what it was.

The only thing I can remember about it was that it had a picture of an estate on the front and on the back it had a little blurb about how the vineyards that the grapes were cultivated from had been spared some crop disease in the 1700 or 1800s.

I believe it was from France and it was either Merlot or a Bordeaux.

I know this is vague but I’m hoping someone here can help me out.

So I wanted to offer some wine to someone for christmas but found all my wine to have a bunch of floating things inside. I opened one bottle of red and poured a glass and it had a bit of particles, I called my dad and he said the wine is no good.

Is it still good? or not? Can I drink it? Hate wasting expensive wine like this.
This bottle i just opened is a bordeaux from 1999.

I am currently in Spain. I found a wine I really really like and I would like to bring it back to the US for my family and friends to try. On a website about US customs limits, they say you can bring 1 US Quart back to the US without duties to be paid.

How many bottles does this equal? What size bottle of wine would be best?

By the way the type of wine I want to buy comes in two Bordeaux type Bottle Wine Case of 0.75 liters.

So my good friend is getting married and I am thinking of getting him a bottle of wine so he can share it with his future fiance, and my budget is 0. I’ve been looking around and I either want a Bordeaux, Merlot, or Some type of Sweet Wine. I want vintage too.
Any recommendations?

I received 2 bottles (one a chardonnay and one a bordeaux) as gifts and I would like to save them for a special occasion. But I’m afraid they will go bad if I don’t store them properly.

We will be spending 3 days in Bordeaux at the beginning of July and would like to do some wine-tasting. Ideally we don’t want to rent a car (none of us can drive a stick and the automatics are way too expensive) - are there easy to reach vineyards/chateaux that we can visit? Also, I know there are a number of famous ones like Chateau Mouton Rothschild - are those open to public? Advice/recommendations are much appreciated!

I collect a small amount of wine. Currently I have about 60 bottles. I started collecting Opus One and a lesser-known Bordeaux by Rothschild with the 1998 vintages. Yesterday, I bought three bottles of a 2005 Concha y Toro Don Melchor Cabernet for about each, and three bottles the 2005 Opus One for about 0 each. The Don Melchor was rated by Wine Enthusiast at 96 while the Opus One has a 95 depending on which magazine rated it.

The ratings have been similar for these wines. Here’s what I’ve been able to find for both:

2004 both were rated at 94
2002 DM was 93 OO was 94
2001 DM was 94 OO was 89
2000 DM was 95 OO was 89

I know the 89s for the Opus is not a good representation of it’s true quality. Both tend to come in around the mid 90s.

Also, Don Melchor came in as the fourth best wine in 2006 according to Wine Spectator .

So, why does the Opus One get so much attention when you can get what appears to be just as good a wine for much less money? I know the name is a part of it, but why wouldn’t Don Melchor end up with as good a name after years of great wine?

I guess my question is, I’m I missing something? Is there something other than name and points that make Opus worth more?

I'm looking to go sometime in the next year. Flights look cheapest in January, but will it be too cold to enjoy wine country (Bordeaux)? What are the cold temperatures in France? I'm currently fairly open on travel time and am looking for the best combination of inexpensive without being so off-season that it's no fun, but some places are shut down off-season and some are kind of wonderful because you get no crowds and people are happy that you're there when they have no business. We're also looking to visit Paris. Any issues with January there?
