We were moving across the country in May and, unexpectedly, all of our things were dropped from a climate-controlled semi into storage locker with no climate controls for 3 months. There were over 30 days of high heat and humidity (90+ degrees F) during that time, doubtless much hotter in the storage locker.

We had 10 cases of wine. At the "low" end were Shafer bottles that we had 3 years into a 5 year maturation period. At the high end were 10-20 year old Gaja Barbarescos. In between we had Rieslings from the best German providers, Cabs from the best Napa vineyards, and some other assorted + wines. Additionally we had in there some fine Scotches that I assume are fine.

We assume the wine is all destroyed but I am kind of hoping beyond hope that some of it might be reclaimable. Thanks in advance.

I have just received a white bordeaux wine. I would like to let it age for a couple of years. I don’t have any special wine cellars or refrigerators so i’m using my normal fridge. I have also let it on its side so the cork is moist.

My question: is it ok for it to be in a normal refrigerator like that? (It is at 43 degrees F). Also will the low humidity really affect it? Also there is an air bubble in the wine bottle, is that normal or is that bad?

Both answers are great. I will let the community decide on best answer. I appreciate your input.

My husband wants to set up a Wine Cellar in the basement; the humidity is between 60 & 75. How much humidity is good? Or is better just to buy the wine refrigerator? But it will take more electricity. I also want to know what kind of wines you suggest for to have. I like red and white wine. I will like to have a good variety of wine for just sit back and relax, dinner time, desserts. Etc. I don’t care about the price range; we want a very selective variety of wines. And for those people that doesn’t enjoy wine like we do, what kind of wine can I get for those occasions? Please I need suggestions. My husband wants to know how to make our own wine, detail instructions. Thank you. I can’t wait for your answers.
Thanks Lexi, I also want to know how to make our own wine.

My wife and I just purchased a home built in 1953. It has a fallout shelter with concrete ceilings and walls and it cool inside and a bit damp. We were thinking this would be a good wine cellar but haven’t been able to find anyone specific plans on what we would need to convert the shelter. I think the temp has to be between 55-60 and humidity between 60-70% but beyond that I’m clueless.

I bought some wine and would like to be build a wine cellar to age wine evenly and smoothly. Right now I just have it in the box in the basement in a closet. I'm also not too sure as to what I can do about humidity as live in Colorado and its very dry here.

Any steps and or suggestions? Websites ?

Thanks!

My husband really likes wine. We live in a small apartment, and I don't like keeping more than a few bottles of wine around the house.

I was thinking about getting him a little 1.8 cubic foot wine cooler for xmas….it holds about 17 bottles at the right temp humidity.
Any words of advice? Recommendations? I'll be needing to buy some wine, too, so I am open to suggestions….I'd like to put at least one bottle of wine that costs -100. What are your thoughts?

The cellar will be a concrete box (4×3.5×2.4 meters) under ground. Does a vapour barrier go on the outside of the box or on the inside? The temps here (Singapore) are in the nineties, humidity is in the 85%+ range. Any recommendations on wall thickness, insulation and vapour barrier? This is a new construction so I would like to do it right!

Regards,

Midas
