I am visiting my parents (who live in another state) for the weekend, and strongly believe I am pregnant (5 positive tests and some symptoms). It’s really hard to keep my mouth shut, especially as they keep offering me wine and coffee (we’re European…it’s what we do. LOL) but I really want to wait for my husband and I to tell them together when we visit again next month.
Did you tell your parents alone or with your husband? Did you do anything cutesy? Was this their first time becoming grandparents (it will be for my parents)?

I have a poetry portfolio assignment due in two days, would you guys please help me comment on my poem? Its titled, "that vase".

In that vase I recorded a memory,
In that vase, she plucked petals day by day.
My mother had left me, now it’s starting to hurt
She told me “I really love you, please stay”.

Alone with him, my father, he made me into a spectator
You never seemed to care for me, only caring for her
Written all over his face, I witnessed Words and phrases
Of violence and hatred, oh father, my father

Day and Night both of you were gone,
Out in the city street lights, the vodka and wine
Enjoying, intoxicated both of you were.
You left me alone doubting my mother, my father.

Your day had come, so did a bouquet
To wish you, “Oh happy mothers day”
Those red roses filled the vase, only colour.
Their meaning had perished, so did your love for me.

In that vase I recorded a memory,
In that vase you plucked my feelings, my trust, day by day.
My parents had left me, now it’s burning red
They told me “We are sorry, it’ll be okay”.
One more thing, the form of Ballad is correctly used right??

I am 26 weeks pregnant. I have always enjoyed the experience of taking communion at church. When I go to Lutheran church with my parents they offer individual cups, including some that are non-alcoholic, so I take those. But when I go to Catholic Mass with my husband, they only offer common cup of wine.

Things brings up a few things for me, so I wanted to see what others out there were thinking and how you had resolved this.

First, the common cup poses some risk of getting other folks’ germs, especially during the winter cold/flu season.

Second, wine is wine. In general I don’t think the thimble sip of wine on sunday will cause FAS.

Third, now that I am really showing, I worry that people would judge me if I did decide to take the communion wine. If people were judging me elsewhere it probably wouldn’t matter much, I could brush it off (although truthfully, there is no where else I am contemplating having any alcohol at all). But being judged at church would feel worse to me somehow, more crushing and isolating.

Have any of the rest of you dealt with these issues? What experiences did you have? How did you resolve them?

I am giving them to my sister, bro-in-law, brother, sister-in-law, brother, sister-in-law to be, and parents

My parents gave it to me as a kid so in my mind it was harmless and I assumed that it was just a name. I’ve never even had port wine. Well anyway, I told my friend I was having port wine cheese and crackers and they knew I was in AA so they drew my attention to the fact and I checked the ingredients and sure enough it say port wine. Does anyone know the alcohol content or if its cooked out somehow?

I’m 17 - my parents own a liquor store. They wrapped it and said to give it to my piano teacher as a Christmas gift; since Winter break is coming up and tomorrow is the last time I’ll see her. Would that be okay to give to her ? (she’s a grandma btw - but she lives with her entire family)

Also, my mom wants me to give one to the director person to this SAT place I go to. Would this be an appropriate gift?

Ok, so for christmas my sister and i are wanting to buy my parents a bottle of dry red wine. Their favorite styles are Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. We are trying to keep the price under 30 bucks. Have any suggestions?

Specific brands they enjoy are Mount Veener, Greg Norman, Hahn Estates, and Fess Parker.

my two parents finish a bottle every night and now we go through 1 and 1/2 ever since I started drinking. I can go without drinking but i enjoy it and my parents offer me some everynight. My freinds find it strange (and unfair). should I be concerned for myself?

Newly 21, I am looking to give my parents each a unique gift this Christmas. For my father, I’d like to get him a subscription for a ‘beer of the month’ type deal. For my mother I’m looking for the same thing, except wine.

Money isn’t too much of an obstacle (within reason, I’m a working college student)

Anyone have any recommendations?

The gift is for my boyfriends parents. They are taking us all on a cruise and they are paying for me and as one of my gestures I thought I would get them red wine because they love it.
