I’m cooking my boyfriend dinner. I’ll be serving glazed pork chops with asparagus. The recipe I’m using calls for white wine, but I’m not sure what kind to use. I’m going to serve the leftover bottle of wine with the meal, so I want it to be one we can enjoy.

We’re not big white wine fans either, but I want to do something different this time. His favorite is Pinot, mine is Syrah.
Any suggestions? Names of brands we should check out too will be appreciated :) Thanks!

Other than the obvious of color that is… I have always wondered why we serve white wine chilled and red wine at cellar room temp. Also, what element in red wine allows it to keep for so much longer(uncorked) than a white wine?
You girls are so smart! =)

Studies have consistently demonstrated that moderate consumption of alcohol and wine is statistically associated with a decrease in death due to cardiovascular events such as heart failure.

Is that just advertising for alcohol or is there actually a benefit that grapes don’t offer us already?

Polyphenols, antioxidants, and flavonoids are present in the grapes. Is the fermentation into alcohol and extraction into the alcohol of these substances helpful for our intake? The presence of (extra) yeast is a small plus i suppose? Or do the potentially beneficial substances like vitamin B12 break down during the making of the wine?

The only hint that wine beats grapes in one aspect is this (maybe): resveratrol is produced naturally by grape skins in response to fungal infection, including exposure to yeast during fermentation. As white wine has minimal contact with grape skins during this process, it generally contains lower levels of the chemical. Benefits of resveratrol have been suggested after animal studies (in mice, not men). Resveratrol is inactivated in the gut/liver, so most of it doesn’t reach the blood stream. So if at all to benefit from resveratrol in wine, one must sip it slowly, because absorption via the mucous membranes in the mouth can result in up to around 100 times the blood levels of resveratrol.

If you know more, let me know. Thanks!
No best answer to my question yet (please read the whole introduction too, answering yes on my title question doesn’t help). Not many people responding to the question, maybe there’s just no health benefit from wine over grapes, and maybe that’s just obvious to all of you. But more people drink wine without considering grapes (or grape juice without the dangers of alcohol). No fun in that said someone. Aren’t there other ways to have fun without having to wreck your health? Feel free to answer.
To Luacharman: how does alcohol help?

My counselor told me I shouldn’t even take a sip of wine, if I am offered it. So now I’m not sure if I am ok for ordering chicken where there was a layer of white wine on the plate and it was saturated with wine too. Do you guys think it was cooked before they poured a large amount of it on top of the chicken, or is it the regular stuff? I feel like I can’t focus. I read on here that if I drink alcohol while taking this med, my heart can stop, and alot of other fatal stuff can happen to you. Will I be ok?

I’m going to be meeting my girlfriends parents around new years, and I happen to know that her father loves wine. I thought as a gift for the holidays and a thank you for having me over I would bring them a nice bottle of wine. I’m not sure whether they prefer red or white wine, so I could go either way. My spending limit on one bottle is . I would appreciate any suggestions, and any detail on what the wine tastes like is more than welcome. Thank you.

After racking (cayuga) white wine, it seems too sweet for my liking. Is there a way to make it less sweet? I have made this the last two years and the first was perfect, last years was too sweet for me (others loved it). Thanks in advance.

We’re having an open house for my wife’s family to come and meet our 9 month old daughter. (Most live out of state). We’re serving appetizers on a come as you wish basis. We’ll be serving meatballs and cocktail wieners, a key lime cheese ball, and finger sandwiches as well as some desserts that others will be bringing. I’d like to offer some wine, but as I’m very ignorant to wine (I’m a beer man), I’d like some input. We do have a bottle of a sweet white wine and a bottle of red wine, but not sure what we should serve.

Any help is appreciated! Styles are most appreciated, as we’d like to serve some local things, but if you want to offer a brand name, I’ll take any suggestions. Thanks again.

She is partial to pinot noir. I need something in the -25 range…

She very rarely drinks white wine, so red is definitely more practical. I want her to be able to enjoy it, not let it sit and collect dust! I think it would be fun to get her something she’s not expecting, but will still enjoy!

I like american cheese (nice if it was made from man’s milk)
I like red wine, white wine is too bitter

… I got a lovely bottle of Syrah Rose at a vinyard a month or so back and want to make a nice dinner for my bf that will go with it. I know white wine goes with chicken and fish, and red with beef and lamb… what on earth does pink go with?

Anyone have a good recipe? I’ll follow it letter by letter if its yummy…!

Thanks!
