I have made a website http://www.veritaswines.co.uk/ in an effort to learn more about wine clubs and start collecting wine myself. All the information on the site has been made from reading books and researching online but I have never collected wine myself and I would love to hear from someone that does! I would like to find out why they collect wine and what wines they feel are best? What’s the most versatile wine?

I love drinking wine but as I am on my own a the moment I don’t buy it cause I always feel wine is for celebrating! I want a good wine for when my girl friend comes to visit and If I get any other visitors!

My husband and I are huge wine drinkers, and consume many bottles over the calendar year. We were thinking of starting a “wine scrapbook” of all of the wines we have tried. My trouble is, is that I do not know how to successfully remove the labels from the bottles. Is there a proper way to do this without completely running the label? Please help! Thank you in advance.

I am looking for a database of wines for some software that I am working on. My software needs to look up wines and suggest likely matches as the user inputs a wine’s name. I am not looking for a web site where I can look up wines; I specifically need to embed the database so it can be used when the software is offline. I’d like to have as many wines as possible both recent and from years gone by, organized by year, variety, color and country. If there is an extensive list in text or CSV format I could import it into my own database. I’d prefer a free or public domain database but may be open to a small licensing fee.

My boyfriend and I went wine tasting this weekend; it wasn’t one those tours where they show you around the vineyard. Basically you go up to the front counter and the girl behind the counter gave us 5 different types of wines to try and told us a bit about them.
When we walked out the door, my boyfriend and I looked at each other and were like "Were we supposed to tip her?"
This was our first time doing any sort of wine tasting.
Does anyone know the proper etiquette? We had a great time and plan on going again soon.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am hosting a cheese and wine function and was wondering which wines go best for such a thing? The snack table will consist of cheeses, salty stuff on sticks - you know party food.

I was thinking four different wines - two white and two red, what do you reckon?

This a wine newbie question. Sometimes if I like a wine we ordered at a restaurant, I note its label - type, year, name of winemaker etc. However, there seem to be 1,000s of wine ‘labels’ or brands. So I can never find the same label again at another restaurant?

So the question is, is it worth remembering the label of a wine I liked given that most restaurants have a very diverse wine list?

Do even people who are into wine recognize specific wines on a restaurants wine list? Or, do you simply go by, grape, region and vintage?

I am looking to buy a nice gift for my uncle who is a huge wine advocate. He has a wine cellar in the basement and a huge collection of wines. I dont feel comfortable picking out a wine myself because he is quite the expert and I would have no idea what to pick. Any other ideas?
