I have recently got into making wine at those "do-it-yourself" wine places, There are a few in my area. No, the wine is not as good as a bottle that you can get for .00 at the liquer store. But some of the wines are pretty good and for an average cost of .00 per bottle its a really good deal.

So when you’re saving up old bottles, what is the easiest way to remove the labels?

Some come off really easily, with very little effort. But some are very stubborn. Most of the label comes off and then you’re left with a sticky residue.

Any suggestions?

My Husband and I are celebrating our 3rd Anniversary in the Northern California area. I wanted to know some of the generally accepted etiquette for visiting wineries. We are wine novices, and our palettes are not yet attuned to the different notes in wine. How can we seem at least a little educated in wines? Is it proper to share a tasting if I can’t handle that much liquor? Do you look like a schmuck if you don’t purchase a bottle of wine after the tasting?

Thanks for your help!

I have been all around my local area (D.C./Baltimore), and have found an abundance of foreign wines - Australian, Italian, Spanish, South African, ect. But for the life of me, I don’t think I have found a single bottle of French. Is there a reason for this (…something that has to do with freedom fries perhaps?)? It is odd that I can’t find wine from a country that is known globally for their wines, but I can from countries which are not known at all (Chilean anyone?)

I would like to put together a wine basket for my brother for x-mas who loves all kinds of wine a good cheeses.I live in a small town in Ohio so no access to imported stores, and I like to make it personal by not ordering a ready to go gift basket. So what good(not brake the bank) wines should I put in it,I know he loves Cabernet Sauvignon, and port, but I have no idea when it comes to names and don’t want to ask not to apoil the suprise. And what else besides the wine,I mean a mini wine rack or a single wine holder or a decanter?Cheese and cracker,or cheese and a nice cheese cutter set? What would make a perfect wine lover’s basket after all. Thanks in advance.

I am not a wine connoisseur but I am willing to broaden my horizons. I have a 4 bottle wine rack. I would like to know what different types of wines would be best for various dinners and occasions? What inexpensive brands are best for acquiring a better taste for different wines?

I may be moving across the country in a few weeks, and I have some nice wines I want to bring with me. I’m going to be driving, most likely, so will probably bring them with me rather than entrust them to the movers, but I’m worried bc it’s going to be the middle of summer and I don’t want the wines to go bad. If I put them in a cooler with ice, they’ll be too cold, won’t they? But if I just put them in a box and put them in the trunk or backseat, won’t they get way too hot when I’m out of the car for a long period? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

in all honesty im not a drinker at all. I have been smoking marijuana for quiet sometime now to deal with extreme insomnia. As better job offers come up I know its time for me to stop smoking but the insomnia worries me alot because I don’t want to take any pills or anything that will harm me greatly, so therfore I’d like to get some wine just to have a glass to relax me before bed. But I have NOOO clue what to buy when I look at all the wines so thats where I need some help. when i do go out with friends or what not I like to have drinks that are very fruity. strawberry is prolly my favorite. I see boones farm has all those fruity flavors, but r those really any good? what could you suggest for me? maybe even something that taste like grapes? but something i don’t have to drink too much of to get a lil buzz going hahaha. thanks!
umm marijuanna is not going to harm me the way sleeping pills would. Marijuanna is not anymore dangerous than a cig or the air that you breathe. Sleeping pills overtime will destroy your liver and possibly kill you. I got very very sick from taking sleeping pills for an extended period of time and don’t care to go through what I went through ever again!
also price is not too much of an issue

I just bought an Oster 12 bottle wine "cellar" on Ebay for . It was listed as "new". When it came it was all banged up & the drip tray was cracked to the point that it won’t be useful. But it was 1/2 the retail price. My first thought was to send it back. But what a hassle! So my question is what do you think? Are the problems with this unit inconsequential? Or are they serious enuf that I shouldn’t mess with this thing?

It is dented @ the top left rear metal cage, behind the electrical elements. And it’s also kicked in at the bottom. As I said, the drip tray is badly cracked.

So what do you think? Spend the $ to send it back? I think the seller will reimburse me 1/2 of that if he keeps his word. But he hasn’t returned any of my emails in a long time - even tho he asked me to email him photos of the damage.

Most importantly, is this thing a safety hazard?

It’s hot & my wines are in need of shelter. What do you think? Get another one? Or "Just Chill"?

Hullo veg*ns!
I’m going to host a wine tasting party in a couple of weeks and I need some ideas for what to serve. My friends are actually going to bring their fave wines, so I won’t know specifically what types of reds or whites they’re bringing. I just need some munchy/finger food ideas that pair well with each broad category.
I’m keeping it all vegan, so what could I offer (besides fruit and hummus with crackers - lol)?
Thanks for the input and have a fabulous, cruelty-free day!

BTW: I’m pretty well-versed in the kitchen, so I want to make quite a few of the dishes as opposed to buying them.
