Hi I have been a windows user since i started using a computer, xp, vista and now windows 7.
I recently had a virus problem with my windows and it was unsuable, the only solution i can do was to reformat my computer. I was using Bitdefender 2011 Antivirus and it did me no good.
So i intalled Lunux Ubuntu 11.04 as a dual boot with my windows 7, i used wubi. Ubuntu is more secure than windows, means less virus or no virus at all.
This is the first time i have ever use linux ubuntu and man i was impressed, the design is simple yet so elegant, its very user friendly, quick in boot up and shutdown, faster than windows 7.
The ubuntu software center has tons of free open source apps, i installed wine so i can use windows apps and it was working flawless but not all windows apps can be installed with wine though.

But heres the problem i noticed with ubuntu compare to windows 7.
When i play a 720p youtube video the picture is not clear and it buffers a lot but when i play it on windows7 , same video 720p fullscreen on youtube it plays very clear and it doesnt buffer,
i was using the same internet connection and the same laptop. For some reason windows 7 plays better hd videos, better graphics than Ubuntu.

I found Ubuntu very attractice for first time users, and dont get me wrong it somewhat similat to macosx. I’ve used mac before at school and it was i think the best OS u can ever have, macbook is just way too expensive for an average user like me.

So give me enough reason why should i totally switch to from windows 7 to ubuntu.
I’m just an average computer use, i do a little bit of photoshop, video editing, video ripping and converting and burning. I do paperworks too, i think Libre office 2011 is fine for me.

Im just having problem syncing my iPhone to ubuntu though, for some reason it jsut wont recognize it. I did al the driver updates but it just dont want to work.

Right now, im loving Ubuntu 11.04 than Windows 7, but the application in Windows are way better than Ubuntu. So help me decide and give me enough reason to switch,
The main concern i have is the viruses, spywares, i know ubuntu is safer than windows.

So which should i choose? Ubuntu 11.04 or Windows 7?

I’m running Fedora Core 11 (i think; it’s whatever the latest full version is to date) and using the ’software updater’ it decides i suddenly need to merge my Shockwave flash player with Gnash. WTF?
Not cool bro, not cool. at the moment i sometimes get the interface gui for YouTube (like when someone posts on facebook and the http has to be differnt, if not just for facebook itself) but now i get a apparently better right-click menu consisting of things, but now the backround is void. for me it’s a tinted dark dark olive green/gold color (that’s just because of my color scheme though, most people’s would probably be black) and i’ve messed with preferences. I do not know that much, my solution would be to uninstall Gnash, but it has merged now, even when i read Shockwave’s description in the list of add-ons, and as my father installed this, had to spend a couple hours working round a ‘user-friendly’ system, but i suppose linux is never user-friendly, eh?
i am not in possession of root, nor would i know how to uninstall and re-install shockwave, or adobe or anything similar, and my dad is rebuilding the system on Saturday (because of a few mistakes he made when crafting the user accounts (btw, copy+paste, not a good idea)
BUT i still will seek an answer, as that is in my nature, even should my simple solution come soon. Gnash seems to be a very behind the scenes project, the "help" only consists of credits and copyrights and such.
So honestly, unless you have Fedora 12 or such, i doubt you will even know what i’m talking about.
And perhaps it is tied with my dad just copying user accounts, that has caused many many errors already (wine doesn’t work, firefox "crashes," and other odds and ends situations)

i saw a video on youtube with something called usb wine….its says you download the wine straight from the vineyard….I need confirmation that this is fake….i doubt this is real, it’s physically impossible to download wine from a computer. nonetheless, a laptop.

I assume that some/most of you are more enlightened in this matter then me, so you can just educate me what should work best. I would be using it for entertainment/educational purposes, so software does not have to be stable release.

Software should work at least one of following OS:
* MS Vista
* MS Server 2003
* Ubuntu(or +help of wine).

End result will be stored in Youtube or Metacafe so I’d like it to record at least 27-30 fps feed on 320×240. Screen casting software does Not have to record sound or decompress video feed.

I prefer using open source and free software, but paying small fee of 100$ is also fine.

I like You to recommend me software I should get. In that recommendation please include for what the software is actually good for (like - high average … fps, can record opengl, can zoom while recording, clear images after compression, supports … output formats, etc.).
