What is the All Best California Wine?
I am traveling to France to visit a good friend. His family owns a winery and is a huge wine lover. Me? Not so much. I wanted to surprise him with the best wine California has to offer, but I know very little about wine.
What wine bottle would you prefer I surprise my friend with? A wine that screams CALIFORNIA!!!

Buy a bottle of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It is smooth, different from French wines and is a good example of fine California wines. Not to expensive $20-30 By the way, good wines do not have to be expensive.
However, are you planning to fly to France. You will have a difficult time sending the wine with your luggage, checked or carry on. Also, the US Postal system does not allow alcohol in 750ml bottles to be mailed. Be careful there are a lot of fines out there.
Food and Wine recently posted a great article on California wines- which lists 75 of the best and details. :
Zinfandel "screams" California- check the list, I am not a huge Zinfandel fan, but the 2003 Carlisle Russian River Valley was amazing.
