I would ask your friend what wine she likes, and then buy it.
pick one you like yourself, or if you don’t drink wine one that you have seen before.
Also you usually get a better value for your money and superior quality if you buy south american wines as opposed to european or american wines.
If not ask the clerk at the liquor store. They should be able to guide you some. It is easier if you know what type of foods the person likes.
i think it depends on who you give the gift…
they like to eat a lot of meat… red wine…
they like cheese, chocolate, nuts… port wine
they like anything sweet… ice wine, muscat
they like fish, sea food… white wine
If they’re into wine, buy them a bottle of The Prisoner and call it a day.
If you don’t know much about wine and you don’t know what your friend likes, I really don’t suggest doing that.
The reason behind that is people have different taste and different liking. When you buy someone a gift, you are hoping that they will like it. Not only are you hoping that they will like the type of gift itself but also the value behind it, the value that it might have over time, and how practical the gift will be.
Wine is too different. Not all wines are the same. In fact, all of the wines are very different, in style, taste, cost, and value over time. You really should know your friend well to give them wine as gift. You don’t want to give them a white wine when they are red wine drinker, unless you have a good reason. You don’t want to give them a bottle of $10 wine when they drink only $40-50 bottle wine. On the other token, you don’t want to give them a bottle of $50 wine when they are used to $10 wine. Worse yet, you don’t want them to give you a bottle of wine, then have them come back and ask you about the wine, especially if they don’t like it and ask why you picked it in the first place.
If you still want to pick a bottle, ask your friend what wines he likes and either get the same or get something similar, both in style and in value. Go to a nice wine store and ask the salesperson. While you are at it, wine bags is a nice way to finish up your gift - nice wine bag or carrier to wrap your wine nicely is always great.
