Wine bottles make awesome candle holders. My aunt used to let all colours of wax drip down the side of a bottle to 'decorate' it, and then use them with dinner candles.
They look pretty cool.
Glass jars make for good hot cocoa, international coffee mixes, cappuchinos, etc.(all homemade of course) (I do this every year for my daughters teachers)(I have recipes if you'd like:))

Last year I saved (mr. peanut) peanut jars. They looked like 'snowmen' with their Mr. Peanut hat on top of the jar.
I painted the inside white, decorated the outside with stickers and things and then filled the inside with all kinds of candy and Christmas treats.

Good Luck
Merry Christmas

Something really neat that I was able to do was hand paint designs on the outside of the wine bottles, then go to the store and buy inexpensive pourers (like on liquor bottles) and I use the bottles for olive oil and veggie oil when I am cooking. The best part is if you paint them yourself, you can personalize them for whoever you are giving them too.

Mine are clear bottle for veg oil and green for olive oil, and they have fish and seaweed scenes on them. Very cute and VERY convenient.

Hi. How about washing them thoroughly and then painting poinsettias and or holly leaves over them from the outside? I think glass paint should work for this.

Since you have wine bottles, these I am sure would come in a greenish tinge or color. You can put a red velvet bow around the neck of the bottle and put 1 or 2 flowers in it. Artificial flowers too would do. You can decorate your room / house in this way by putting these "vases" around. Or gift them to your friends.

You can get mini Christmas lights and put them inside the glass bottles, and make centerpieces with some artificial flowers and pine wreaths. You could also get mosaic tiles or different colored class beads and attach them to the bottles for really pretty candle holders! Good luck =)

you can drill a hole in the back of the wine bottle or jar (using a diamond tipped drill bit IMPORTANT) and insert a single strand of christmas lights into the bottle (you would want to use the ones that only have 1 plug, not that can go "strand-to-strand") it looks really neat to plug the wine bottles in on a shelf and see them illuminated or with the jars, you can insert the lights, and then through the top of the jar opening, add your favorite scent of potpourri and colored ribbon and mix them around with the lights. take a piece of lace and place it over the opening to the jar, and secure the top closed using the ring portion only, not the metal circular piece. tie a ribbon around the top of the jar, or hot glue a beaded decorative ribbon to the metal ring. when you plug the jar in, the potpourri, ribbon and lights will shine through the glass, also, as the lights heat up the potpourri, it will start to smell. good luck and happy holidays!
