What kinds of wine can be kept long term and which ones can’t?
I always thought it was cool to have old wines. After all you see these big dusty wine cellars in all the old movies. For years I’ve kept a small wine rack around with a few different kinds of wine that I just picked out at random. ( I think it makes my appartment look groovy. ) However, I am just a pretender, I don’t really know much about wine. Now all of a sudden I hear that wine needs to be used soon after purchase or it’ll go bad. What’s up with that? Is this a total falsehood or is it only certain types that get better with age?

most wines can keep, if you keep them in a temperature of 55 degrees (never keep them in sunlight if you don’t have adequate storing), but certain wines are better if you have them young, and do not keep them for long … it really depends on the grape.
my suggestion is to subscribe to food & wine magazine, so that you can know which wines you can drink right away & which ones you can keep. it’s all about educating yourself.
Every wine is different. Some wines are at their peak when you buy them, others reach their peak years down the road. It really depends on the vineyard and the type of season the vineyard had.

Since it is summer time now If I am keeping red wine for more then 2 days I put it in my fridge and during the winter I hold it in the garage. Red wine turns into vinegar if it is sittling at a warm temp. for to long. I would suggest buying a wine refrigerator so you can keep all of your red wine at the perfect temp.
