What the hell is that crap clinging to the inside of my wine bottle?
There is as strange red residue on the inside of a bottle of wine. About 3 total square inches. The wine is Gallo of Sonoma Syrah wine (2003 reserve). It appears to be solid and stuck to the insides of the bottle, though smooth, like it was paper. Not sure what this is.

Harmless sediment. When you are at the wine shop hold the bottle to the light to see if it contains sediment. Unlike what one of the previous responses said, it is not just in cheap wines. Some of the finest wines and especially port wines can contain a great deal of sediment, and it is totally acceptable. Yes, you could strain the wine, but my suggestion would be to let the bottle stand upright for a few hours before carefully opening and slowly pouring the wine into a decanter so as not to disturb what has settled to the bottom of the bottle. Enjoy!
cheap wine tends to have sediment and leave residue
It OK to drink. It is just sediment that happens when wine is old and not moved around a lot. It will not hurt the flavor of the wine or anything, but you may want to strain it into a carafe before serving.
It is residue from the grapes. If you keep wine in a bottle and do not rotate it, it will happen. It does not matter if the wine is a fine wine or not. It just means that the bottle was stored improperly.
The bottle should be stored on it’s side in a cool dark place and turned at least once a month.
Sédiment de vin -don’t worry, it won’t hurt you, just looks gross. Next time either by grape juice or expect to pay more than $10 for a good bottle of wine.
Just kidding, except for the part where I said it won’t hurt you that is provided you have no special allergies to wine
