what type of wine would you recommend as a wedding gift?
So my good friend is getting married and I am thinking of getting him a bottle of wine so he can share it with his future fiance, and my budget is 0. I’ve been looking around and I either want a Bordeaux, Merlot, or Some type of Sweet Wine. I want vintage too.
Any recommendations?

Get a bottle of champagne and I mean REAL champagne
Robert Mondavi merlot from Napa Valley.
As has been mentioned, unless you know the tastes of the bride and groom very well, a bottle of expensive wine may not be a good choice. You could however, get them a gift certificate for a a wine shop that sells the type of wine you would like to present them with and they could then choose their own wine.
Given those choices and budget, definitely go with the Bordeaux, or a Napa Cab.
Depending on where you live and what’s available locally you should have plenty of choices. A real wine store should be able to help with a Bordeaux because local inventory is going to differ greatly.
As for Napa Cab’s, I’d look into Vineyard 29, Caymus Special Select, or Alpha Omega ERA.
Best of luck.
Mad Dog
I’ve heard that Chateauneuf de Pape is one of the best vintages you can get. I’m not a big wine drinker myself, but all my friends who’ve had it loved it.
I wouldn’t recommend getting a bottle of wine for a wedding gift for several reasons. The quality and taste of wines cannot be predetermined solely by price or age. A person who prefers cabs would not fully appreciate a fine bottle of merlot. If your friend is a wine connoisseur, try getting something that you know he enjoys.
Since he is your good friend, it may be better to invest that $200 budget on something that you know he and his fiance would enjoy together. Perhaps something for their home. A gift certificate to their favorite restaurant (generic gift certificates are too impersonal) would also be nice.
