Red wine should be kept around 56 degrees, out of direct sunlight and in a humid enviornment. White wine a bit colder around 45 degrees, but you can get away with 56 degrees fro white as well. I would add that wine should be kept in the dark when at all possible. Have you considered purchasing a used fridge to use for your wine storage if you don't want to purchase a chiller? The garage does not usually pass as this spot.
