Ubuntustudio might be what you’re looking for.
To the guy who said KDE…KDE is a desktop theme, not a distribution.
Linux Mint is another good choice, and Fedora might have what you’re looking for.
Go to Linux.org, and look there. There are some crazy distros out there for almost everything you can imagine. There is one that was made completely for multimedia, however I can’t remember the name. It might suit your needs.
Oh, and if you need more speed, look into the Xfce desktop theme. Its super minimal and blazing fast. Gentoo runs it, and I think slackware does as well. Its not too hard to install it on the others though. Just a thought if you are playing games in wine.
fedora
opensuse
Fedora? Debian? I agree, I did not enjoy OpenSuse
Hmm.. I like KDE, check it out.
The best your going to get is ubuntu 8.10. All linux distros are basically the same underneath, and ubuntu has a vast community that has made it what it is. The next best thing to ubuntu is Linux Mint…which is built on top of Ubuntu.
I especially like Fedora Core. If you fully install from all 5 CDs of Fedora Core 6 or customize your setup, for example, you will almost have every software you might need in your computing. And, you can always install more after that.
try ubuntustudio
Ive tried a lot of distro, using different machines (of different specs).
This is my top 3
1) Mepis (runs any hardware, good as a personal workstation)
2) Centos (great server platform)
3) Fedora (ok, ok, a great development platform)
Ive tried those other distro’s too. and yes, you can get work done with any of them. All you need is enough time to figure things out.
Honestly, if you’re looking for ease of use in a Linux desktop then stick with Ubuntu 8.10. Other distributions are equally powerful, but not as easy to get fully functional.
