Which wine selections for cheese and wine function?
hello,
I am hosting a cheese and wine function and was wondering which wines go best for such a thing? The snack table will consist of cheeses, salty stuff on sticks - you know party food.
I was thinking four different wines - two white and two red, what do you reckon?
Can someone provide some background on this please?

I personally would go with one heavy, one light for each. So you could have a cabernet and merlot/pinot noir, and chardonnay (heavily oaked these days) and a pinot gris/grigio for fruity and crispiness. You might want to add a fifth one, Champagne. A nice demi-sec goes well with anything, right down to pizza and Chinese food. I suggest Mumm.
Anyway, the reason I say 1 heavy 1 light, is so guests can determine what combinations go with their palates.
Some chardonnays are too strong for strong cheeses (blue, etc.). I’d stick with a savignon blanc and maybe a pino grigio. They’re not as potent in flavor. Plus, it depends on your preferences as well.
I would go with a very soft red like Pinot Noir and then a heavier red like Merlot.
I would try whites such as an unoaked Chardonnay and a Riesling.

Red wine goes best with cheese. I’d get a couple really good bottles of red and let the cheese be the background rather than the main attraction. Maybe a pinot noir
