Will a unopened bottle of wine go bad?
I purchased a bottle of wine in a small vineyard while
on vacaton in California about 5 years ago.
I put it in the cabinet and just found it.
It was out of the light and not effected by temp.
Will it still be good?
Possible gift

It will probably be ok. However, if you did not periodically rotate it like wine is supposed to be, it can develop sediment in the bottom. This seems to happen to reds more often than whites. If that is the case, just don’t mix it up before you pour, and make sure the last little bit is not poured into anyone’s glass. Just throw away that last part, so no one gets the sediment. If the sediment it poured accidentally, though, it won’t hurt anyone. It just is bitter and has a weird texture that you wouldn’t expect wine to have.
It should be fine, although there is always a chance that air has leaked in and it has gone bad(that can happen to any bottle, though, no matter how long you have had it. )
yes it’ll be fine, wine is supposed to taste better aged anyway
90% of wine sold is meant to be drunk immediately. If you purchased a bottle meant to be aged and stored it properly (on it’s side in a cool dark area) then it will be great. If it’s not a bottle intended for aging (even if you stored it properly), it may/may not be palatable.
Personally, I wouldn’t chance it on a gift. Crack it open one night (with a spare just in case) and drink it yourself.
yes, of course.
Be sure to tilt the bottle and store it so as to keep the cork moist.
No problem, should be fine. Cheers!
It should be fine, the light and the temperature are the two biggest things that would have affected it. The light does the same thing to beer, giving those green bottled beers the "skunky" taste and the temperature could also change the flavor of it. I would say that if it is only 5yrs old you should be fine. I just drank a bottle that I had and it was a 2001, been out of the light, but it did go through some temp. changes (and a move from FL to NY) and it was de-lic-ous!!!! So you should be fine.
It will have a better chance of being drinkable if it was stored on it’s side. Typically red wines will store longer as the tannins help to preserve the wine. Regardless, the only way to tell is to open it up and try it. If it smells good, it is likely okay although it may lose its boquet very fast once it is opened. kw
