Wine Country Question?
I’m going from Las Vegas to San Francisco on vacation, passing through Bakersfield and northward. Can you suggest the best towns to pass through to get a taste of wine country on my way to San Francisco?

Sonoma & Napa Valley!

If you don’t mind a more round about way to get to SF, you could swing over to the central coast Santa Barbara are a….great chardonnay and pinot noir near San Luis Obispo.
Or if you take i-5 north from bakersfield area then to 80 west you can take a detour to Napa. Sonoma is a bit farther away and more out of the way than Napa if you are heading towards SF. You can do a nice loop up and down Napa Valley and all the wineries are very accessible. Sonoma you have to hunt more. No town in Napa is really better than others. There are over 300 wineries to chose from.
napa/sonoma is like an hour past SF
if you’re looking for something between bakersfield and SF, you may want to check out the livermore wineries. they are very good and generally much less expensive and less touristy. and on the way to SF

You have to come through Napa Valley! Sonoma is sparse, although there is a good cheese shop there on the town square. Napa Valley has many small wineries, shops, and excellent food. And it’s beautiful. Come to the Valley!
I prefer Sonoma County to Napa because there are more smaller wineries. There are some good ones near Healdsburg.
