Wine/cheese party….what else to serve, what will be the cheese administering device? other easy ideas?
So… I may have gotten in over my head promising a classy-like wine and cheese party to my friends (luckily were all close so if it sucks they’ll still love me). I have an idea of the wines and cheeses I will have, but do I serve crackers? Ritz, triscuits, or do I have to go crazy and get melba and crositni things? FYI, I’m serving fruit too. Anything else that is relatively simple I can serve these kids (like no more than 2-3 steps further than opening a box). Thanks for your help!!
LOL…it’s not for actual kids…I just ca;; my friends "the kids"…I assure you we are all well over 21…some of us treading pretty close to 30:)
also….my evil plan is to buy all of the stuff I need at Trader Joe’s…any special items from there anyone can suggest? They have a rally good pesto/cheese tort thing I plan on getting.

A wine and cheese party- for kids?
You could also serve breads- along with some crackers.
Maybe an Antipasti platter- assortment of meats/ cheeses/ veggies.
Have a dessert wine and serve fresh berries and sponge cake.
Start with the semi-sweet white wines when you serve- and move toward the dry reds….. then have a nice sweet wine with the dessert…..
And remember- if there is (enough) wine- it never can be a bad event!

You can just serve the cheese with Ritz crackers or Town House crackers. Cheese is also really good paired with salami, you can either slice it yourself or buy some pre-sliced. If your cheese is cubed, you can just use toothpicks (maybe some colored ones for more class) instead of crackers. Grapes, watermelon, canteloupe and other fruit that the guests can pick up easily with toothpicks. If you want to be really fancy, you can buy thinly sliced and cooked salmon and serve with garlic-flavored cream cheese on crackers - Ritz would be perfect. You can also get a bread bowl, hollow out the center (reserving the center for dipping) and fill the middle with Dill or French Onion dip.

A bread bowl dip is always fun and good presentation. My wine guru friend always brings deli meats with the cheeses. And he’s good at pairings. Shrimp is another good platter to pick up. And around here in Napa Valley there’s always an antipasto platter with a variety of olives.
Olives. My grocery store has a salad bar that has a bunch of different olives. It is a nice pairing with wine and cheese.
cheese whiz - ritz crackers -white zinfidel -just make sure the white zinfidel is from a bottle and not a box ur friends will know ur a class act baby .after u put the whiz on the crackers u can just give the kids the bottle of cheese whiz to suck on after . Dang this party sounds hot !
Yes, serve some crackers, but you should definantly have sliced sourdough or sweet bagutette, home made crostini and Trader Joes has wonderful packaged flat breds, etc. I was born and raised in the Napa Valley and now live in Sonoma County (wine country). Triple cream and fromage cheeses are great on friut as well as my Meyer Lemon reciepe.

Meyer Lemon Olive Oil and Honey spread
1 # Laura Chenel Chèvre (Goat Cheese) room tempature
1/4 cup Meyer Lemon Olive Oil
1/4 cup Sonoma County Honey (any honey)
Over a low flame, gently whisk together Meyer Lemon olive oil and Sonoma County honey until smooth & warm. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Mix cheese and honey mixture with hand mixer till smooth.

Roasted Artichoke Pesto
3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice 3 large cloves garlic, quartered lengthwise 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh thyme leaves 1 bay leaf 1 teaspoon gray salt 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 2 packages frozen artichokes 1/2 cup tightly packed fresh basil leaves Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. In a deep ovenproof pan, combine 1/2 cup olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Add the frozen artichokes and mix to coat. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cover with aluminum foil, transfer to the oven, and cook until the artichokes are browned in spots and tender when pierced, about 35 minutes. Allow the artichokes to cool in the liquid. Remove the bay leaf. Put the cooled artichokes with the liquid into a blender. Add the remaining 1/4 cup olive oil and basil leaves and process until smooth.
Get some Columbus Dry Salami and serve that next too whatever cracker you choose. Salami goes great with wine and cheese.
Get good crackers at Trader Joes, they have some nice ones. I would also serve a crudite with a nice veggie dip.
i would go for a range of crackers, including the pricey ones. some will prefer a triscuit, but some may like the more refined ones. have plenty of all kinds, as people tend to munch on crackers when their is a lull in the conversation. btw, i would recommend serving a white wine as well as your likely choice of reds. most people don’t know that red wines are not really well suited to most cheeses. go for a pouilly-fume or a sauterne wine.
