Would you trust a robot to choose your wine or cheese?
After a two-year effort researchers at NEC System Technologies and Mie University in Japan have created a robot that can taste - an electromechanical wine steward able to identify dozens of different wines, cheeses and hors d’oeuvres. When objects are placed before a sensor at the end of the robot’s left arm it fires off a beam of infrared light. The reflected light is then analyzed in real time to determine the object’s chemical composition. When it has identified a wine, the robot speaks up in a childlike voice. It names the brand and adds a comment or two on the taste, such as whether it is a buttery chardonnay or a full-bodied shiraz, and what kind of foods might go well on the side. Nice trick, but wines are very similar in their spectral fingerprints. The variations are very subtle. Some of the mistakes made would get a human sommelier fired. When a reporter’s hand was placed against the robot’s taste sensor, it was identified as prosciutto. A cameraman was mistaken for bacon.

I wouldn't trust a human, either.
Although wine and cheese experts can provide helpful tips, ultimately there's only one person who should choose the pairing …
… and that's you!
I would'nt trust NO Robot to pick my Cheese! I'm having a Friggin Mac-Attack right now and i can't deal with a silly robot! Sorry!
A robot is only as smart as the person who programmed it.
No thanks, I go with the wine stewart.
I'm allergic to dairy products and hate wine… so he can pick it out but I won't be consuming it.
With the accuracy of thinking a cameraman was bacon and the reporter's hand was prosciutto, hell yes I would trust the robot.
I pick my wine - Chianti - and cheese - brie Then nobody gets blamed. What a waste of time.
Well no how the heck is the robot to know what the heck I like with my food. It is not enough that some one put an arbitrary pairing chart of what food with what wine. That is perfect for a guideline but each individual has to give it taste buds a try when it comes to wine it is a complex thing
Definitely not. They would only go by how they are programmed. Besides, computers DO make mistakes. And I would rather choose my own wine and cheese.
why would i trust a robot for, it does not know my taste, i like to taste my own wine, but on the flip side, it is good to have a wine/food taster if you have enemy that may put some thing in your stuff, I hope that person is not a Programmer, then your screwed
No.
just did a search,and you what,not now,not then,not ever,thats to much,..Pearl g
